GREAT TUNING ENABLES BETTER PLAYING

I got the HPT2 tuner last friday, quickly and well packed. I was able to tune my chanter, and drones with ease using the bracket and the clip microphone. I first try to tune by ear, then i check with the tuner. It saves time when i'm at band practice, because the pipe sgt didnt have to spend a lot of time tuning my Kintails. I think i got a good deal here and would recommend buying this tuner, that was design just for bagpipes. thank you Frank Velez

A real pleasure

We tuned our chanters with it this weekend for a gig and it was a real pleasure, saving us a good half hour in tune up time. Thank you so much.

Sold on the HBT2 for several reasons!

In shopping for tuners, I was sold on yours for several reasons, the clip instead of taped on sensors, three scales, and the metronome I can use while playing with it on the bracket. Several reviews also mentioned your customer service. Apparently they were right! Thanks again, Mike (USA)

Awesome!

We have put your HBT-2 tuner to the test. The results are AWESOME! I tuned the band with Lezlie Webster on Tuesday. Both of us were extremely happy with the HBT-2 - it never dropped out or failed to show a frequency. I tuned mini-bands at gigs on Wednesday & Friday and it again was perfect. It picks up the freq from the drone tops and never drops out, which allows me to cruise around the pipe section for set up and then a final tweak before we go on! Thank you very much for taking your time to help us with the tuners. Our band & instructors thank you and are all impressed with your customer service! Allen

HBT2 Tuner- great product!

Hello Murray! I have just received the HBT2 tuner pack - it's a great product! It was tested against a D7 analogue tuner yesterday at the grade 2 band ring and was immediately found to be much more precise and accurate. I have also tried your new Tuning tape, which I find to be more stable that ordinary black gaffer tape. Thank you. All the best, Bengt, piper, PD1RE, Stockholm, Sweden.

Best I've used and easy to work

I would just like to say that your bagpipe tuner is the best I have used including being easy to work with. When I brought it to band this week and tuned the pipes, it was a great deal easier than having to muck around relying on your ear and also getting great results. I am buying any other for the band so we can get the chanters tuned a lot quick, two hands are better than one. Thanks for your product. Al Sinclair Rockingham Pipe Band

The improvement to our band's sound was ...

We are a Royal Canadian Legion Pipe Band, a non-competition street band which performs at many functions such as parades and ceremonies in and beyond our community of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. We are also a very inclusive band whose members range from the very skilled and experienced pipers to those who have been piping only a short while. We were very fortunate to receive sponsorship from the Ontario Trucking Asssociation to record our original piece of music which we had been performing, in companionship with our local brass band and vocalist, to recognize the families and fallen soldiers who make the jouney along a length of highway recently named the Highway of Heroes. The latter is a length of highway along which all fallen soldiers returned from duty in Afghanistan are transported.

To ensure that our band could provide competent piping for our recording, we purchased a number of your Highland Bagpipe tuners so that our pipers could ensure that their pipes were kept tuned to a consistent frequency well before and, of course, on the recording date. The improvement to our band's sound was quite remarkable. Our recording session was very successful and we are very prould of the final product.

The piece of music is titled Beneath the Vigils. If you visit www.beneaththevigils.ca you can sample the piece in several modes as well as order by mail or I-Tunes. Our musicians take no remuneration but, instead, direct all profits to Parkwood Clinic in London, Ontario to assist veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. Our Highland Bagpipe tuners are used at every practice and continue to be of great help in improving our sound.

The tuners should not be confined to the domaine of competition bands but used by street bands such as ours as well.

They are a very worthwhile investment!

My enjoyment of piping has soared.

I always had a battle with getting D, F and high G in tune but the HBT1 does this marvelously, I've never heard my chanter singing so sweetly and it makes practice a joy :-) .

I love the great big display on the HBT1 and the price is extremely good for such a unit. Oh, also, I've been using it with my bellows smallpipes too and it's brilliant.

I should add that now I have my pipes so well in tune with themselves that I can now hear much more easily when my blowing pressure dips (awfully easy to get into the habit of letting pressure drop just a wee bit at the end of parts - something I've noticed in many players in grade 4).

I would again emphasise how much my enjoyment of piping has soared and my confidence is much enhanced now that I use your HBT1 tuner. Thanks again for your help, very much appreciated, I'll away and play my pipes some more!

All the best, Robert, East Kilbride,Scotland

Useful addition to my pipe box

I've been using your tuner with the clip microphone for almost 4 months now and would make the following comments. The tuner certainly has proved a worthwhile purchase.

Drone Tuning (Personal)
I found the HBT1 Tuner an excellent piece of kit when playing on my own. I didn't use it every time I played but found the tuner brought my drones in perfectly with my chanter. One added benefit is that the sensitive microphone picks up fluctuations in the drone reeds and therefore the stability of the drone sound. A large fluctuation on the meter indicates either, extremely bad blowing or a reed problem i.e. a frayed bridle, loose reed etc. These minute details have a detrimental impact on the overall bagpipe sound.

Chanter Tuning
This is were I found the HBT1 tuner a useful addition to my case; as useful as tape, hemp and knife. The tuner picked up all notes without a problem and assisted in the tuning of the chanter, I used the tuner as a check on my own bagpipe set-up. The tuner helped in picking up subtle flat / sharp notes. For me, I found it useful in the top hand register. Sometimes it can be hard to identify if a note is sharp / flat but the tuner knows!
The tuner works well with or without the microphone attached. The rapid response (when the clip was attached) was useful in teaching and demonstrating to learners & players of the fluctuations in their blowing i.e. overblowing on high A etc. The tuner was useful in providing a check that my own chanter remained balanced and accurate. This is useful when temperature changes on a competition day. I used the tuner as a means of confirming that my own pipes remained balanced, which in turn provides confidence when checking the rest of the band.
I also used the meter when putting in new reeds. I simply attached the tuner and blew the chanter before inserting into the bagpipe. The tuner speeded up this process and I could add / remove tape as required.

Lessons I have learnt
Ensure the small responsive sensor is placed correctly on the chanter and not the larger pad on the clip. There is a tendency to place the rounded pad correctly as apposed to the sensor. I certainly found the tuner a useful addition to my pipe box. The tuner will not fix bad blowing but highlight it.
There are still more lessons to learn!
Kind regards,
Glenn Ferry

Great Delivery Time

Great delivery time on the chanter tape. If it works well here in the "sunny South" I will sing its praises far and wide. I removed the gaffer's tape, cleaned my chanters and applied the new tape. I'm also well pleased with the HBT1 tuner. Joe D. USA

Fantastic tool

This tuner is great. After finding the sweet spots on the different makes of pipes in the band, tuning drones has become a faster process. Getting a read form the chanter is amazing. The tuner responds about as quickly as I can adjust my blowing. This has also become a great tool the band is using to initially set a chanter reed. It is nice to use the new clip with the longer cord. It picks up and gives a reading quickly and the curved clip sits easily on a drone (either the pin or the neck) without slipping off. Switching between the drone and chanter reader is easy. This is a great tuner that has made me quite popular in the band. I get a lot of requests to check specific things that sound off to pipers. Thank you for all your work and help. I will recommend this tuner to any piper or band. Nathaniel New Mexico, USA

I've been tuning my pipes solo since I left Melb back in May last year, so before I came over for the championships I asked the PM the pitch for the band. Turned up for the first pipe practise and had them spot on. The HBT got a good work out this weekend!  D Keogh, Australia.

To ensure that we get consistency with tuning, we took the leap of faith and invested in eight of the HBT1 tuners and issued them to the eight most seasoned pipers. The difference it has brought to our sound was quite remarkable. Pipers are tuning more precisely when practising at home and all pipes are much more consistent at practice. Having pipers tune at home is using the tuners is paying dividends.

DK

Murray, I've found this tuner to be very intuitive and has greatly improved the setup and blowing of my pipes with its accuracy. The added bonus has been that as I play with 2 bands, I'm able to turn up to a practice with the other band days before a competition and have them spot on with the bands pitch. The metronome is very handy too. Great stuff.

Thanks for the new tuner

Hi Murray. I wanted to say that we are very pleased with this new tuner. we had the chance to check it on a parade this week. One piper had F that was so sharp it was showing up as a flat G. None of us could hear his chanter as there were about 30 pipers (from different bands) all warming up. The ability to tune a chanter when you can't hear it clearly is just wonderful. We are not a parade band but this has proven the tuners worth already. I have to say I was concerned spending this kind of money but it will now be a permanent fixture in my sporran. Well Done. Jim Oats.

Wendy

The tuner has highlighted that I should tune my chanter more accurately and has helped with my blowing pressure, so it's been worth every penny!
