The key to using the clip microphone on drones is finding where the 'sweet spot' is on your pipes. Due to vibrancy, tonal qualities and density of wood this often varies from piper to piper. The type of drone reed also plays a significant part in successful detection. The following images suggest positions for clip with the best results on most pipes achieved on the lower drone section below the projecting mount.

Additionally, facing the flat surface of the clip forward may assist detection by isolating interference from the chanter.
